Product Description

This is a rigid U-shaped sliding lock bar for a pair of cabinet knobs or handles. One end of the bar is a closed loop; the two arms run back to a sliding catch with two prongs. You thread the loop over one knob, drop the second opening over the knob on the neighbouring door, then slide the catch along until the pair is clamped shut. Nothing sticks to the cabinet and nothing is screwed into it — the lock is held on entirely by the two fittings it is threaded over.

It needs two knobs or handles, side by side

Check this before you order, because it decides whether the lock works in your kitchen at all. The bar has to reach across a pair of fittings, so it suits a double-door cupboard where two doors meet in the middle, or any two adjacent handles close enough together for the bar to span. The supplier's photographs show both cases: two round knobs, and two slim vertical pull handles. A door or a drawer with a single pull has nothing for the second opening to grip, so it cannot be locked with this. Measure the spacing between your two knobs first.

No adhesive, no drilling, no marks

There is no sticky pad, tape backing, strap or mounting plate anywhere on the part. Nothing can peel paint off a cabinet door, nothing leaves residue on a gloss finish, and there are no screw holes to fill in later. Fitting and removal are the same movement in reverse, so you can move the lock between cupboards as your child grows, or take it with you if you are renting.

Opens with a slide, not a key

To open a locked pair of doors, slide the catch back along the arms and lift the bar off the knob. It is a one-handed movement and there is nothing to unclip or unscrew, but it is a deliberate action rather than a straight pull on the door. The bar is rigid moulded plastic in white, so it holds the two doors together rather than flexing open, and it sits flat enough against the fronts to leave alone between uses.

Why Choose This Product

For parents and grandparents with double-door cupboards — the under-sink cabinet, the bathroom vanity, the cupboard the cleaning products live in — who want them shut without drilling into the doors or sticking anything to them. Fit it, check it holds on your own handles, and treat it as one part of keeping a room safe rather than a substitute for supervision.
